The responsibilities of the ANPC, in accordance with the provisions of Decision No. 700/2012 on the organization and functioning of the National Authority for Consumer Protection, are multiple. A few of them are as follows:

(i) The ANPC monitors compliance with legal provisions on consumer protection regarding the safety of products and services, as well as the protection of consumers’ legitimate rights, by carrying out market inspections at manufacturers, importers, distributors, sellers, and service providers, including financial services, and at customs units. It has access to locations where products are manufactured, stored, or sold, or where services are provided, as well as to documents related to them, with the exception of hygiene and sanitary-veterinary inspections at manufacturers in the case of food products.

m) coordinates the rapid exchange of information with competent institutions and authorities, both national and international, regarding products and services that pose a risk to the health, safety, and protection of the consumer;

r) carries out information, counseling, and education activities for individual consumers regarding the products and services intended for them; publishes specialist materials related to consumer protection;

j) The ANPC identifies contraventions and orders measures to limit the consequences of producing, providing, importing, marketing, or offering free of charge food or non-food products and services, including financial services, that do not comply with the legal provisions in the areas of activity of the Authority, by applying the sanctions provided by law, and notifies the criminal investigation authorities whenever it finds violations of criminal law;
